Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a 25-page open letter to the American public on September 29, urging voters to reject President Donald Trump’s policies ahead of the midterm elections.
IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi presented the document at a Tehran press c
onference. The letter calls on Americans to oppose U.S. support for Israel and involvement in foreign wars, and it argues that Iran and the United States could coexist if Washington changed course. It accuses the Trump administration of misrepresenting Iran’s nuclear program and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, and it asks voters to “wrest control back from corrupt politicians.” Mohebbi said he did not expect the letter to alter the administration’s behavior five weeks before the vote, but hoped ordinary Americans would hear the message.
The United States designated the IRGC a foreign terrorist organization in 2019. The letter arrives months into a U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran that began in late February. U.S. officials dismissed the appeal as a propaganda effort. The IRGC framed the message as an attempt to explain its positions directly to the American public rather than through official channels.
Whether the letter reaches a significant U.S. audience, or influences any ballots, remains unclear.
